|109. Nix Cantabrigae..... Sold
24" x 40"
|In this painting three women slog through the winter slush, past the old Cambridge burying ground (on the right), into Harvard Square. They are undoubtedly female Harvard Students, trekking into the Square from "The Quad," the most remotely sited group of Harvard Houses. In 1636, when Harvard was founded, they would not have been women, and they would have known what Nix Cantabrigae means.|
